                 KEEP ON KEEPING ON
                       By Lynn Lingenfelter

I wake up each day with joy and a fresh hope in my heart.  Life is good.  I’m strong and healthy again.  Then two weeks ago when I woke up, my head began hurting, and as I started moving and exerting my body, I felt a caution light begin to flicker as pressure mounted in my head.  A week passed and the pain seemed to be there each day.  I wasn’t to be deterred.  Life is still fresh and alive, even though the headaches are fresh too.  Some days when I wake up, it takes awhile to get moving, and by the end of the day and all that needs to get done, my head hits the pillow and I wonder if I’ll be able to face a new day without pain.

Then I remember that my hope is strong.  I can’t put my hope or strength in statistics, because by all statistics, I shouldn’t be alive.  I can’t put my hope in medicine, because some medicine may be helping me fight the disease, but that same medicine could break down and destroy my vital organs.  I know I need to work out and eat right, because that helps keep my body strong.  That’s a statistic that has helped me beat all the odds so far with this disease.  As I close my eyes, verses from the Word rush through my head, and I can drift off to sleep, because I am rooted and grounded in the
Word and God is my hope.  I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but my roots of faith and God will walk me through it.

“I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and earth.  The Lord watches over you – the Lord is the shade at your right hand. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”  Psalm 121:1 & 2; 5; & 8   NIV

 EveyFINDING YOUR REASON(S) WHY
                            By Evey Lingenfelter

“I couldn’t participate in life.”
“I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic.”
“I saw myself naked in a full length mirror for the first time in years.”
“I saw our vacations pictures and couldn’t believe the pictures were me.”
“When my husband died, I decided I had to get healthy so I could be there for our sons.”
“My 2-year old daughter couldn’t wrap her arms around me for a hug anymore.”
“I found evidence of eight 1200-calorie shakes in my trunk.”
“Forty-five pounds heavier from my pregnancy, I got depressed. My sister told me that I needed to take care of myself as well as my kids.”
“I had to buy my first size 28 sweater.”
“I can no longer wear any of the clothes in my closet.”
“I was out with friends who were even heavier than my 208 pounds when it hit me that I really needed to change my habits.”
“I am too big to run around with my kids.”
“My doctor said______________________________________ or I would die young.”
“I JUST WANT TO FEEL ALIVE AGAIN”
In the eight years that we have had our personal training studio, these are a few of the reasons our clients have shared with us about what drove them to look us up. Their motivation to come in and weight train, eat healthier, cardio and just take care of themselves. They made a decision. They found their reason to act…to do something about the way they were living their lives. To solve some problems they refused to live with anymore.
Whether it is one thing or a combination of things that resulted in your decision to change the direction of your life, you have found your purpose.  Nothing is more powerful than having a purpose and knowing your reason(s) for finding that purpose. Without your purpose you would be going though life without focus, without drive, without motivation.  Just going through the daily grind…not really living… just existing. Does any of this describe you? Are you wandering in whatever direction life leads without any anchors or idea of where you are going or why you are going there?
Several times in my own life I have just existed without any idea of which way I was going but just floating along where ever the tides of life took me.  Not so much fun. In fact I remember those times as being lonely, aimless and very depressing.  Why get out of bed? …To do what?  Sometimes you just have to find your reason for being…YOUR PURPOSE…Your reason to be on this earth at this time in history around the people that you know.
Most people who show up and really want to change their lives with health and fitness are usually doing it for far deeper reasons than to look good on the beach, or for the wedding coming up, or any other superficial reason you may be thinking. Usually it’s about meaning in their life…something to focus on…something that is positive…something that will inspire others around them…something that will give them a reason for being…in other words, their physical transformation can end up being very spiritual and extremely life changing if they allow it to be. In fact, if it is you…you may turn out to be an entirely different person than the person who first showed up. You could have more confidence…more excitement about life…a willingness to try new things…excited again about meeting new people…a drive to get living again.
So what are you waiting for?  If you are not moving forward you are moving backward.

 EveyAnd we are the ALIENS….

                    By Chrystal Ciodyk

Do you ever wonder what people are thinking about you when you walk into a room, workout at the gym, or shop at the grocery store? It’s human nature to look at people and have thoughts about them.  It’s only natural to compare yourself to them and think, wow, I wish I looked more like that person, or, I’m glad I don’t look like that! The healthy, in-shape people seem to be quite the minority lately. It’s almost as if we are….ALIENS! We are ridiculed and criticized for our choices. People say “too bad, you can’t eat that, you’re on a diet”. NO, actually I choose to eat healthy everyday so I will look and feel amazing. I make exercise part of my daily routine, just like showering and brushing my teeth, and I greatly enjoy all the benefits from it. Why doesn’t everyone do those things? Why am I the alien?
We all fall down sometimes. You may have been through something that has got you to where you know you need to make a change before you have to buy a new wardrobe. The body is always fluctuating, where do you want to maintain it? If someone told you that they know the secret to looking and feeling great, and it’s so easy that anyone CAN do it, would you try it? What would stop you? What would drive you to really want it?  An upcoming event?  A bad report from the doctor?  Life is not defined by your physical body but if you feel like you should be doing more with your life, taking care of your body should be the first thing. Who told you that you can’t get healthy?
Thoughts are flowing in and out of your mind all day. Influenced by TV, radio, people….Why wouldn’t you want to take control and send them in a positive, healthy, inspiring, and stimulating direction? When thoughts are controlling your actions, think about how great you would look and feel if you just made a few simple changes. Refuse to be limited by what others say, what you look like now, or past circumstances. Stop concerning yourself with entertainment, addictions, and negativity! Doesn’t anyone want to learn anything anymore? Especially something that they can benefit from!
I won’t stop being healthy because at times I feel like an alien. Instead, I will hold true to my knowledge and continue to care about myself in a healthy way. When others make fun of me or think I am weird for eating healthy and exercising everyday I will always have an educated response for my actions and continue to better myself while they sit there and keep trying to be a bully. What are your friends like? Do they encourage you to be healthy or invite you to eat junk with them? Do they tell you how proud they are of you for making positive changes or make you feel embarrassed and uncomfortable? Do they invite you to the gym for cardio or to the bar for a drink? If you have made the choice to live a healthier life and they have not, you might notice some conflicts of interests. It doesn’t mean you can’t be friends. You could actually turn out to be a good example for them. Now you need to make a few new friends who are living a healthy lifestyle.  They will motivate and encourage you.  Spend time exercising together and trading healthy recipe ideas. Always invite your old, unhealthy friends.  Surprise them with a delicious healthy meal at your house!
