This month we are foregoing the regular newsletter addition in favor of our list of Holiday Survival Tips to help you continue on your fitness journey through out this holiday season.
Did you know that most people gain a whopping 10lbs from Thanksgiving till New Year’s? Are you going to be one of those statistics? If you don’t want to arrive into the year 2010 feeling fat, sluggish and drained of vitality then read below so you don’t lose this battle like so many do.
Tips:
Be Grateful – Many, many of our friends, families or even yourself personally may be going through some tough times. Things may seem up in the air, money tight or no job on the horizon… well this can cause some major stress. Often when stressed out it is really important to figure out and focus on the positive stuff in your life. Do not focus on what is wrong this holiday but instead on what is right and good. Are you healthy? Thank God! Do you have family and friends? Thank God! and so it goes. We all have so much to Thank God for and to count our blessings everyday. Nothing stays the same. Your situation will change.
Don’t Stop Working Out – a quick way to put on weight is to up your calories with special holiday treats and not working out to at least even out those extra calories. Even if you are only working in short bursts of workouts through out your busy schedule make sure to do something everyday.
Wear Form Fitting Clothes – when going to your holiday festivities. This is my favorite technique. If you are looking great and your clothes fit perfect then there is no room for you to over indulge and let your belly get overstuffed and still be comfortable. So NO comfortable clothes allowed when presented with opprtunities to overindulge.
Plan your Month – Whether you are planning to be unique and drop a few pounds over the month of December or just maintain your current fitness level you must make a plan for when you will cardio and weight train. You will be setting yourself up for success with a plan.
Plan Your Free Times – With all the Holiday parties you are invited to, it will be up to you to pick and choose which party you will allow yourself to let it go some. If you are craving sweets or pasta and bread or some egg nog with alcohol, pick and choose when you will indulge. Plan on once a week letting it go to some degree.
Drink Lots of Water – So important to stay hydrated through this busy season. Drinking water can also help you to feel full so as not to overeat in festive situations. So drink up!
Portion Control – If you absolutely can not say NO then just take a bite or two. Limit the damage in calories. So what if it’s not your free time and you really, really want to have some of those Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies that are only around during the holidays…go for it BUT limit the damage. Two bites!
Accountability Partner – Whether it’s a girlfriend, husband/wife, cousin, uncle or a personal trainer, find someone that will make you ‘fess up to laziness, overindulging and so on. You and that person should work together to survive and thrive this holiday season. You can do it!
Hopefully you will apply some of these tips into your life this Holiday Season and get to the other side feeling stronger, lighter and fitter then you ever have before. Now that’s a way to start the New Year. On top of your game. Looking forward to seeing you there.
