Finding our NEW Path

May 3rd, 2011

So I know Lynn and I have been hinting here and there (blogs, facebook, twitter, transformation) that we are going to be venturing forth and stretching our wings with some new endeavors. And YES we are and we are very, very excited about it all.  As some of you may have heard Lynn and I are selling our Personal Training Studio. OHHH Yes we are!! BUT don’t get to thinking we are getting out of the health and fitness business because that would sooo NOT be true.

We will continue to help folks with their health and fitness and continue to LOVE doing it. We have owned and operated our studio for 10 years and feel blessed to have been allowed to help so many of you folks overcome your health and fitness issues and now it’s time for us to broaden our horizons. Life is all about growing, changing and becoming and this is just a natural progression for us to follow.

As many of you know Lynn has personally overcome many, many health challenges and he is really looking forward to sharing his story and his beliefs with folks everywhere through his Speaking and writing career. He is currently working with a speech coach and is very, very excited to start this new chapter in his life. Within the next few weeks we will have his NEW website for his speaking career up and running. It is www.LynnLingenfelter.com. Lynn currently has a few speaking engagements lined up here locally and will be on Bill Phillips Transformation Web-TV show on Monday May 16, 2011 at 7pm Eastern Time. Make sure to tune in LIVE!

We have both felt a calling to spread our wings and step up to help folks in a different way. It is SO important to keep growing and challenging yourself  in ALL ways and this is something that we feel is our PURPOSE and our PASSION. There really is no better feeling than that you are REALLY inspiring, guiding or helping someone BELIEVE that yes they too can have a healthy and fit life.

Also in the works is an e-book series we are working on. The e-books will basically encompass all WE HAVE LEARNED from you folks – are clients, friends and family. Yes believe it or not but in teaching others we have often been taught. Will keep you updated on our progress with moving forward with these projects. We will continue to keep you updated through our newsletter, blog, facebook, twitter or however you are following us.

We would appreciate all your positive thoughts and prayers as we move forward with these changes.

God Bless You,

Evey

Do You BELIEVE?

April 20th, 2011

I have been dousing myself in Norman Vincent Peale lately and have read ALL of his best-sellers from back in the 50’s. Yes these are business classics and they are heavy with biblical scriptures to back up his ideas.  If you are unfamiliar with him he is the author of “The Power Of Positive Thoughts” and “You Can If You Think You CAN”  just to name a couple of his best-sellers. Definitely worth the read for anyone making changes they may be a little unsure of.  Which brings me to this blog topic for today. All his books are about controlling your thoughts and keeping your thoughts on higher things(GOD) and positive things. So basically you are what you think you are. You can do what you think you can do. If you believe something, whether true or not your perception claims reality. So my question is does it ALL just boil down to what we believe? Can it be so simple?

Lynn and I have owned and operated our Personal Training Studio for – well we are in our 10th year now. And we have successfully helped many, many folks overcome their health and fitness situations. However we did not help ALL of them. In fact I would state that out of every 10 clients we trained, 6-7 would do the program with varying degrees of success and 3 would QUIT. Yes I have the numbers to prove this point. Always so happy for the finishers but WHAT about the quitters? Why did they QUIT? What was their mindset?

When a new client starts training with us we begin by spending time discussing exactly what their EXPECTATIONS are and what we can REALLY do for them ( we are not The Biggest Loser – no dropping 28lbs this week). And I have to say on looking back and recalling these situations it has come to my attention that the ones that throw in the towel STARTED out believing they could because we told them they could but then something happened. A few weeks in they would start questioning the process. They would talk about what their friends, family, neighbors or whoever was saying what about what they were trying to do and viola…. not long after they would just quit. WHY?

So here is my deduction at this point. I believe (BELIEVE) that you have mental habits. Many clients come in and get excited because they see others doing it and momentarily believe they can too BUT then reality sets in with the old mindset. Like I almost believe they walked in the door doubting and disbelieving but said well let’s just give this a TRY. Like who knows MAYBE I will overcome this weight thing. But they don’t really IMAGINE themselves getting healthy and fit. They just continue to THINK “I can’t do this.” “I can’t get healthy and fit.” You know – all the old “I can’t” mantras… a lot of us have running in our heads constantly.

SO lets go a little deeper here. If you can do what YOU THINK you can do and be who YOU THINK you can be is the problem our thinking? I mean really, really our thinking. Like for example we grow up ‘to believe’ that losing weight and getting healthy and fit is HARD! I mean go out and ask any overweight person about their weight problem and they will tell you stories of how HARD it has been for them. I mean over and over and over it’s the same story – “It’s just too hard!” “It takes up to much time.” “I just can’t go without eating my junk.” “I am just NOT suppose to be small” and on and on…

My question is – is it really HARD or is it a conditioned thought? Let me explain my reasoning. If you hang with folks that are active and go surfing, running, biking, swimming, lift weights and etc… and ask them is it really HARD to stay healthy and fit? A majority of the time they would say NO!! So can it really be that the overweight, unhealthy person JUST BELIEVES they CAN NEVER be the healthy and fit person so they aren’t? And if so can the solution be what it appears to be – a SIMPLE solution?

Now you may be saying well BUT it’s an addiction. And well yes food addiction has been claimed to exist. Although it is a relatively NEW addiction. So let’s look at another addiction that has been REFERENCED as an addiction for a bit longer. Let’s say smoking. Now if you are a smoker you have been TOLD probably since before you started smoking that it is IMPOSSIBLE to quit. Or at least impossible to quit without some aids or support and is it really? That’s the question. Is it HARD and/or IMPOSSIBLE because we have been TOLD since before we can remember that it is or is it REALLY hard?

Being an ex-smoker this is a tough one. I always BELIEVED when I was younger and smoked that I COULD NOT give it up. But somewhere along the way my THINKING changed. I began to imagine myself as someone else – a non-smoker. And guess what happened I DID quit. I did change but my thinking changed too. When I quit I BELIEVED I could and I also believe that I didn’t NEED the cigs anymore. Because when addicted you really, really believe you NEED the item your addicted too. So again is it the THINKING?

As a side note I also THOUGHT I was allergic to exercise – most especially cardio. Hated it.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

God Bless,

Evey

Musings of a Personal Trainer/Studio Owner

November 18th, 2010

Instead of updating my fb and twitter page with my sometimes snarky (really like that word) entries I’ve decided to write a little blog about some of my experiences of being a Personal Trainer and Studio Owner. Over the years I’ve scoped out many, many other fitness folks websites, more recently fb pages, twitter, youtube and yes I have even gone UNDER COVER to other PT Studio’s to find out what their deal was and how they helped THE PEOPLE get FIT! Always good to know what the competition is doing especially right down the street.

Fortunately for me and my husband, NOT much was happening down the street. Just your regular run of the mill weight training and cardio, selling packages with a couple studios focused on a small segment of athletes and so we never really had SERIOUS competition because we did it different. We took the Dentist in town, the stay at home mom, the Manufacturing Entreprenuer two blocks over, the teacher at our kids school and TAUGHT them about their bodies.  AND occasionally God blessed us with true blue athletes. And I will explain that last sentence in a bit.

In walked the regular folks from our community. Coming to us to help them “lose weight” or “get stronger” or more often “look just like the pictures in the windows”. Yes  both my husband and I have been chunkers at some point soooo yes we have before and after pics to show THE PEOPLE it can be done. As most of you reading this can imagine MOST folks just want to lose the FAT! And they will tell you they want to lose it SO BAD they have starved before, thought of having surgery or have already tried surgery, or cardio’ed till they couldn’t cardio no more and of course the all time favorite… DONE EVERY DIET IN THE BOOK(S). And yet STILL they are FAT. So they show up to us and say “PLEASE HELP ME. You helped my friend, relative or co-worker, – can you help me too”? Referrals are BIG, BIG and BIGGER in our studio. In fact I would have to say if you are REALLY having success with your clients and helping them overcome their weight issues then ALOT of their friends and co-workers and relatives will jump on the band wagon too!!! And that is a GREAT thing.

Well for us the first step  is to help them to believe they CAN DO IT. That yes they too can get healthy and fit. No matter if they have carried an extra 20-30 lbs since the last kid was born 20yrs ago or not haven’t been fit since they were 30yrs old and they are now 55 or they HAVE NEVER been thin. And here is how we will get you on that path.

As many of you reading this know at our studio we took Bill Phillips’ Body-for-Life program and adapted it to help the folks wanting to get fit and healthy. Why did we do that?  First because it is a proven system that works.  Right??? And secondly because we both were very successful with the program ourselves. Of course we do tweak it here and there but overall we incorporate a program like BFL does, that includes eating, cardio and weight training for success. And guess what folks, no surprise here but to live a healthy life, not just a fit, 6 pack life but a HEALTHY life you really should have some cardio, weight training and real, qualilty food regularly.

So the folks would train with us and sometimes they would do really, really good like us and our pictures BUT most of the time, as in 80 – 90% of the time they would just do OK. And the process of getting them to just do OK…. well, well, well that is a whole other blog entry. Alot of the folks that did OK, and when I mean OK they STILL lost lots of fat but they did not get THEIR abs showing or really, really lean but definitely slimmer, stronger and fitter. So in this case OK was GOOD. And what  we found out with 9 years of doing this is that yes people say they want to look like the cover model on Oxygen or Men’s Health but really don’t want to do the WORK necessary to get there. Really is this a surprise? Can they get there abs showing and have a near perfect body? Absolutely they CAN. Anyone can.  You’ve heard it before…anything is possible, the real question is how bad do you want it? What are you willing to give up to get it? How much are you willing to put into it – time, energy and money wise? OR will you get to a physical place that is not near perfect but very comfortable and very healthy and say “I am OK here!”

SO all I’m trying to say is that most folks just want to lose some weight, feel good, have energy and NOT be uncomfortable in their own skin. That is what I’ve learned. And I will tell you my very favorite kind of client to train is an athlete. WHY? Because I don’t have to teach them about their body, about intensity, about giving it their all. But still have to get into the FOOD issue. Incredibly even hard core athletes still don’t realize that what they feed their bodies really, really matters.

In looking over alot of advertising in the fitness world alot of times it just seems to me to be directed at other fitness folks. Or people that are really into working out and taking care of their bodies. Sometimes I really question who the blog entry was written for because often they just don’t seem to be directed at regular folks just looking to make some small changes that have BIG results and can be done with some effort. Because most of the 68% of the overweight population out there are NEVER going to be fitness models, or bodybuilders. They will remain the dentist in town. THe schoolteacher. The entreprenuer and the stay at home mom. Hopefully fitter and healthier versions if we do our jobs right.

Misinformation EVERYWHERE You Look!

October 11th, 2010

I have to say I am still a newspaper reader. Yes I do also read news online BUT I still enjoy opening a newspaper and seeing what’s going on from a lot of different perspectives that I might miss if I were to only receive articles that I was interested in that showed up when I logged on and so not lots of other topics and writer’s. Well it just so happens that recently while reading the Orlando Sentinel, particularly, I have noticed a BIG trend to misinform the public along the lines of health and fitness. I have to say right here that there is nothing that gets me fired up more than to read CRAP and have someone imply it as IN STONE factual information. Most especially when I am quite certain (at least at this very moment) they are WRONG!

Alright you might be thinking at this point that I am picking on the Orlando Sentinel( I often pick on them here in blogs or on my fb page) and OK yes I am but the reality unfortunately is that misinformation is everywhere. In the news (TV), in the magazines, coming out of friends and loved ones mouths, on fb and twitter…basically everywhere your eyes see and ears hear. This is not good. This does NOT help people get healthy and fit. In fact often when a new client comes to us to help them get healthy and fit our very first JOB is to change how they THINK about food and exercise. Because they have so much CRAP in their heads that is just not TRUE and FACTUAL. Yes you might think Aunt Mildred was always right when she said just stop eating to lose weight but REALLY… it’s the 21st Century now can we still possibly be dealing with folks who believe to lose weight and be healthy you starve? Yes, yes we do…

So what exactly is misinformation? Definition: information that is incorrect. Found at the www.thefreedictionary.com. Information that is INCORRECT! So why would someone write and/or repeat info that was incorrect? Do you think they believe that the info is correct and are just repeating something they have heard a few or many others say and then it therefore becomes fact? Yes I can go with that flow. Definitely believe many people spout junk and believe it ALL but I also believe that there is a more sinister element in a lot of this misinformation. I personally believe that many, many companies out to make the bucks throw out lots of partial truths that could almost be true and are true in very specific instances but for most folks are so not true. Here is a question… do you believe this happens on the topics of health/fitness, politics, and religion?

The Orlando Sentinel recently made some changes to their format and now they have a page called HealthKey Daily which is conveniently the second page of the first section. Hard to miss! On this page they share new studies and new research shorts for what’s happening in the health world according to their reporters. I can tell you right here and right now that more times than not I am disagreeing with the angle the reporter took on any given topic. Almost always because HOW it was presented was not clear and was for a specific agenda that is NOT to educate the people to make smarter choices. So this makes me question why did they start this page? Was it to educate folks to make smarter choices or to push agendas of the pharmaceutical companies and the medical establishment? Hmmmm

Let me give you an example here. On Wed. Sept 29, 2010 there was an article called “Trying to lose weight? Mimimeals might backfire” It quotes from a recent study published in the journal Obesity that this researcher, Heather Leidy, apparently published her findings in. Well as I am reading this article I just get totally confused because the article itself has nothing really to do with the supposed finding of this ladies research. From what I can gather she was trying to determine if the men in this study felt fuller with a high protein diet versus a normal protein diet spaced either with 3 meals a day or six meals a day with the focus on the amount of protein in each meal. Hmmmm so what does this have to do with minimeals NOT working? As you can imagine I am all for small meals throughout the day. While reading this article I all got was confused. Was the purpose to throw an attention getting headline out there stating something NOT TRUE so we would read the CRAP and just get totally confused about eating again? Did this article really HELP anyone make a smarter decision with their health choices? Who was the article written for?

I have found that you must read your articles, blogs (yes even this one), books and anything else that influences how you perceive information with eyes and ears wide open. Question the intent of the statements. Question the overall viewpoint. Did it make sense? Did it answer a question for you or cause more confusion? Keep asking away because what you think in your HEAD is so very, very important to how you live and the choices you make. So protect those thoughts. Don’t just let any old junk in there. Listen and learn with eyes and ears wide open!

Love to hear your feedback!

Evey

What DO We DO at Fit Transformations?

September 30th, 2010

It has occurred to me that I have NEVER written a blog about what we DO at our Personal Training Studio. So after 9 years of owning and operating the PT studio with my husband Lynn Lingenfelter, I have decided I will write about what we actually DO. Yes I have written about circumstances and situations that clients often encounter on their road to living healthy. Discussed what our definition of healthy is and how to get IT! Blogs have often been about food and how it effects our body in good and/or bad ways depending on what your eating  and about exercise, the ways and hows…BUT not the DO at Fit Transformations so here goes!

Well it all starts off with a personal consultation (FREE) where we sit down and discuss what is is that you are REALLY trying to do with your health and fitness. We will often do  your bodyfat to determine where you are on the scale of BMI or Bodyfat percentages and what the healthy range is for your age and activity level (or  in most cases lack of activity level). Always we want to know WHY you are looking to make changes in your health and fitness. Whether you are just tired of being overweight and want to lose some weight, have a high school reunion coming up or all the way to the extreme of having you Dr. tell you you MUST do something to lose some bodyfat or else!

Our typical client is someone interested in losing anywhere from 15-20lbs and  all the way up through 150lbs. And with our population having overweight and/or obese folks upwards of 75% of us you can see why this is our most common client. Although most of our clients are looking to get rid of the love handles, jiggle in arms, sagging butts or well any other problem areas you can think of we also usually have a few athletes training with us at any given time throughout the year…football players, soccer players, baseball players, basketball players and the list goes on. Lots of athletes looking to take their game to the next level! Most of our clients are in age anywhere from early 30 – 70’s and so can therefore afford to pay a personal trainer. If we get someone younger it is generally an athlete or son/daughter of a current client.

So we are sitting down discussing what brought you to call us and inquire about what we do. Remember most people call us who only see our before and after photos on the windows in our business or on our company SUV ( unless they are a referral – in which case they already KNOW all about us). And so they call and want to know what we are all about and see if they can become like our pictures. You come on in and we sit down to find out WHAT you want to DO and WHY! After establishing all that I will then ask you if you have tried other routes to achieve this goal. This often gets to be really interesting but I have to say after doing this for so long and hearing ALL kinds of stories I just don’t know if I can be surprised anymore but what some people will do to get smaller. I hope you noticed I did NOT say get healthier, stonger or fitter. And that is all I will say about that in this article because I am sure I did write at least one blog on this topic before….if not I will soon.

At this point I will explain HOW we can help you out. And this is what we DO. We are a private personal training studio that has one-on-one personal training. We are by appointment only and all that means is we are not THERE unless we have an appointment with someone to be there. Lynn and I have always and still believe the one-on-one is the best formatt. It gives us an opportunity to help our clients in other ways besides just putting them through their paces with weight training. We discuss their food journal, their cardio schedule and try to head of any problems and/or help the client solve problems or overcome situations while in them or before they occurr. We do and have done groups but they are not as educational or as productive for our clients. But again it depends on ultimately what your goals are. If you just want to have fun with your girlfreinds and use working out as your get together time …sounds great. Just don’t expect INCREDIBLE results with little effort put into your workouts! And of course I would tell you that…

What has always seperated us from other Personal Trainer’s, studio’s or gyms is how we put it all together for you. We use Bill Phillip’s Body-for-Life approach. That approach incorporates weight training, healthy eating of small meals throughout the day and cardio to develop a LIFESTYLE. And it is a lifestyle we preach. We want you to make friends with food. Learn how to live with food and exercise for the rest of your life. In fact I always TELL folks this is not a GET FIT QUICK plan here. We are going to TEACH you how to love and take care of this body God gave you. How to fuel it with quality food. How to strength train properly and effectively. How much to cardio. How to do it effectively. You see it is a program where we teach you everything you need to know and do for the rest of your life to live a long and healthy life.

So we have established where you are right NOW. Determined where you want TO BE. When determining how much bodyfat you want to lose we will discuss WHEN we believe this can be done by such and such a date. I would get out our packages and we can figure our together what works best with your schedule and your investment into your health and fitness. We have determined HOW  we will do this – with our help and expertise we can accomplish this together. And of course the WHY that brought you into our studio to begin with. SO we have answered all the big questions …WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Always love FEEDBACK!!!

God Bless You,

Evey

An Observation and a Book called “Women Food and God”

September 16th, 2010

I was initially planning on making this blog entry solely about Geneen Roth’s newest book “Women Food and God” but have decided to vent just a little before my insight into this book. So here goes…after training my clients this morning I went off to get my cardio in for the day. For me that is a 10 mile rollerblade on our beautiful bike trails here in Central Florida. As I am getting all geared up and getting my music going an old acquaintance of mine from several years ago runs by with another woman. And all of the sudden I am just irritated. Let me tell you why. Because she is as out of shape as she ever was and well sorry…but it just gets me all pissy some times when you spend time with people, and answer their questions repeatedly over and over again and what do you find them doing? NOT WHAT YOU SUGGESTED!!! Ok so at least she is trying to get healthy and is out running with her friend (exactly what she was doing years ago)! Yes she was. OK and…. what about all the time I spent aswering her food questions? What about all the time I explained weight training? Or any of the other health and fitness questions she and her friends regularly inquired from me almost daily? Yes I know I have NO CONTROL over OTHERS. And the reality is most people just can not HEAR. OK, OK, OK  really what else is to be said! This is the personal trainer in me writing this…If you have any insight  and you would like to enlighten me further please feel free to comment…

Ok so what about this book…huh? Well I have to say I picked up this book because I had read a brief summary of it and was intrigued. And of course the title is really, really catchy too! I am totally into the whole body, mind and spirit thing right now so of course being the reader I am I wanted to scope out this book. I later discovered that this author is very well respected. Been on Oprah and had written other Bestsellers. All interesting to me because I knew none of that at the time I bought the book. Had never heard of this author before. The review and title hooked me.

Well it was good enough to get me to read almost all of it in one sitting. That is a good sign because if it was at all boring I wouldn’t get past chapter one and never open the book again. This author bases all her observations on experiences she has had helping women over the past 30+ years in retreat settings and counseling get a handle on their food issues. And she is a great storyteller. She fills all her chapters up with stories of women who have had enlightnening experiences with her program and great successes. Her program basically being (straight from the book jacket) “The way you eat is inseperable from your core beliefs about being alive. Your relationship with food is an exact mirror of your feelings about love, fear, anger, meaning, transformation and, yes, even God.”

Overall a great, great book. Lots to digest. Funny, very funny and very relatable stories shared by many, many different women from all backgrounds and situations. All kinds of food issues. You will definately get pulled in if your a woman who has struggled with food  at any time in your life. And really how many of us haven’t?

Now about the God thing. Didn’t really get the feel with where she was going with all that. Yes God is sorta a part of the program but in what form I am still unsure of. For some reason I just never got a clear image. When I finished the book last week the feel I had was I probably need to go back and read some of her earlier stuff to get a better feel of where her God thing is here. So, not so clear on this and I’m thinking that was puposeful (or it could justs be way over my head…hahaha). Never does good to offend people now does it!!!!

Geneen Roth and her newest book “Women Food and God” gets an A from me. It is very interesting and I will be reading her earlier works NOW. Must find out her God angle!!!

Always interested in your feedback. Don’t be shy….

What is YOUR Portion Size?

September 1st, 2010

So as many of your reading this already know - my husband and I are involved in Bill Phillips online social site for health and fitness -  www.transformation.com. Which is an awesome site with lots and lots of information and motivation from so many involved in overcoming adversities and still learning to live healthy and fit lives that is a must check out if you are at all interested in changing YOUR health. Sometime over this summer Bill rolled out an upgraded Transformation.com site that included a section on preparing healthy meals. Now really there are lots of opportunities on this site for anyone to learn how to live healthy mentally, spiritually and physically.  In fact there is even a section that has videos of how to weight train correctly. Of course of the most interest to me, at this time, was the food videos on how to prepare easy meals. Anything that cuts down on the guess work in the kitchen is a huge plus for me. Yes even though I’ve been into fitness for many years I am aways interested in discovering anything that makes time in the kitchen quicker and easier. Anyone with me here? Can I hear an AMEN!

So I am watching this video in hopes that I will discover another meal to add to my limited meal lists that I am good at and it was an egg meal. Bill and this Chef guy are making it look easy and delicious, both important factors for me to be interested. Now at the end when the meal is complete Bill says something to the effect that this would be the serving size for him. And at that point I almost fall out of my chair. WHAT!!! So I am thinking well if that is Bill’s serving size and he weighs ohhh a few more pounds than me – well, well, well! This is a problem.  Are you getting the hint here that maybe, just maybe I am starting to think that my serving sizes have grown to be probably a BIT more than they really should be. At least if I am interested in trimming down some bodyfat versus adding some bodyfat. Like who really needs help adding bodyfat anyway?

So that was my moment of enlightment. Hmmmm maybe I need to start paying attention to exactly HOW MUCH I am eating whenever I eat? And this folks is a BASIC step of living healthy and fit. It can get out of whack for all of us sometimes. And restaurants don’t help with portion control. Recently me and the girls went for our regular Girl’s Night Out and I ordered chicken kabobs and because I am NOW paying attention to my serving size I ate  just a quarter of the plate and brought the rest home to my husband. The whole plate was about 4 servings for me.

So again if you are trying to trim down it’s a must to get your focus back on how much you are eating at each meal. You see this small, simple stuff can catch you up sometimes if your are not paying attention or are going out alot or are just really, really hungry. Which, by the way, the last part is NOT suppose to happen, the getting really, really hungry because your suppose to be eating through out the day. Yes another BASIC step on your journey.  If your like me and have suddenly discovered, that heck, your eating for two and no your not pregnant!!! Time to get back on track. Back to the basics… Where are you with this basic step?

God Bless You,

Evey

“The Mental Game”

August 19th, 2010

I just finished reading Andre Agassi’s autobiography “Open” and it was interesting and well – really good. I liked it. Fortunately it was not ALL about tennis.  It was written to be entertaining and it was. In fact as I started to read it all I kept thinking was that this guy did not write this alone. He didn’t. But I loved the style of the writing and most of all I loved the content. Chapter after chapter of this guys life and his achievements always seemed to boil down to his thoughts. When he made his comebacks it was all about what he was thinking. Like can I or can’t I? And boy did he make some incredible comebacks and break all kinds of records.

It’s like that famous quote “IF you think you can or you think you can’t, your right.” So often when dealing with our clients or potential clients we come across this mindset of “but I can’t do that. I can’t be like all those other folks your worked with who had changes because…..  (You fill in your own very special reason(s) you always use for not changing here)” “Yes you can” I would say, ”why not?” I believe in the plan and you should too because it has proven effective for hundreds and hundreds of other clients of ours.

When my husband, Lynn Lingenfelter, was in the hospital, almost two years ago, fighting for his life do you think he was thinking I can’t survive this? NO, No, NO I KNOW he was thinking I WILL survive this. Even though ALL his doctor’s were convinced that he would NOT! And most of his family and friends as well – me included!

I have to say here that sometimes, personally, even after being in incredible shape and tranforming my body many times successfully I have and do sometimes get that niggly thought in my head like can I really do this again? Am I too old? Can I really have a flat belly again? OR is my body NOT going to let me? I am currently in your boat folks. When my husband got sick I had just competed in my first Figure Competition two months prior and  was in phenomenal shape. While my husband fought for his life and spent months recovering I LET IT GO and have not gotten back to even my regular fitness level since. Fortunately my letting go is at this point after much up and down about a 15 pounds weight gain.

But not now. I KNOW that if I just follow the plan – the plan works. Maybe not as fast as I want. In fact NEVER as fast as I want but it will work nonetheless. I will not let the thoughts sometimes in my head defeat me. Even when I start thinking “but I look good enough” I will not stop now till I get back to my maintenance size. Sometimes you just gotta move forward and rely on FAITH. Faith that your actions will cause the reactions your looking for.  Faith that the plan will work for you as it has for so many others in the past and will for so many others in the future.

My husband and I recently got involved with Bill Phillips Transformation online social site and it is incredible for motivating and helping keep folks on target. I recommend you read Bill Phillips book “Transformation” as well. It is your road map, your plan to getting healthy and fit mentally, physically and spiritually. It is my plan! I have done and and am doing it. Look forward to seeing you reach your goals and achieve some things you may have thought impossible in the past.

Always interested in your thoughts and comments …

Asthma and Exercise

July 15th, 2010

Some of you reading this might be one of the folks diagnosed with asthma and control it with inhalers or you might be someone who has to take other medication. Either way you suffer either regularly or irregularly with symptoms the rest of us do not suffer with. For those that don’t know what asthma is- it is a chronic disease that affects your ability to breathe. The inside walls of your airways get constricted, swollen and sensative to all irritating things, which causes your airways to get narrower and so your lungs of course get less air. You might then start to cough, have trouble breathing, feel chest tightness and wheeze. When these symtoms become worse than usual, it’s called an asthma attack.

In reading up on asthma and the lastest research I came across a study done this year published by Reuters Health that has determined that moderate exercise has shown to help asthma folks to have less asthma problems. In fact it states, “The take home message from this study is that 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at a moderate to vigorous intensity on three days of the week can lead to signficant improvements in asthma control.”  This was a small study but a significant first step in determining that aerobic exercise is a big, big benefit to asthmatics.

And as we all should know by now that exercise is proven to help with weight control, reduce risk of heart disease, reduce risk of certain cancers and help blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels. So sometimes you just might want to ask yourself “WHY NOT EXERCISE”! If you know that it will help your quality of life with asthma and reduce chances of dying young from certain health situations why wouldn’t you spend that 30 minutes off the couch and moving your body AND just three times a week?

Hope this helps.  So make sure to take the time for yourself this week and get outside or go to the gym and move that body. Shoot for whatever you can do and slowly increase the time and intensity so that you are always pushing your body to the next level. Whatever that level is!

Always intersted in feedback – good or bad!!!
